In the same study of 55,000 women, 6.4% were size 36. And 6.1% were size 48. Almost the same proportion.
Yet a woman wearing a size 48 has 71 times less choice of clothes than a woman wearing a size 36! The study doesn't give any figures beyond that, but imagine if you were a size 52, 56 or even larger...
This disparity creates a gap between the fashion on offer and the real needs of consumers. An injustice that needs to be redressed.
Representativeness and diversity
2,2 %. That's the proportion of plus-size models who walked the catwalk at Paris Fashion Week in September-October 2023. An improbable figure when you look at the reality of sizes. Especially when you consider the profound impact fashion has on self-perception.
Seeing models who look like us in ads and magazines helps boost self-esteem and promote a positive body image.
